This new community facility for Camden will provide a purpose-built animal shelter including adoption viewing areas with meet and greet spaces; as well as a nursery propagating native species to be used in landscaping and restoration projects delivered by Council.
MAAT is working with design team Sam Crawford Architects, Lymesmith & Yerrabingin to develop a wayfinding strategy & graphic scheme that builds on the Connecting with Country strategy & integrates with the architecture, colour palette & landscape.
The signage design uses a family of animal & plant schematics to animate this light industrial site, create a sense of destination for community members adopting animals, & weave moments of joy throughout the sometimes challenging day-to-day tasks of a primarily volunteer workforce.
Developed as simple & friendly forms, to encompass the wide range of breeds & native species; the schematics are overlayed with patterning drawn from flora & fauna - fur, hair, whiskers, feathers, stamen - to make a broad & diverse family of non-human kin.
Project ongoing.
